FATHER AUSTIN O'NEILL died suddenly last weekend. He was a gentle and caring pastor and served the diocese well since 1961. He was a curate here in York at St George's and after spells in Hull and Malton he returned to St Aelred's in York where he retired from a few years ago. His funeral Mass takes place on Friday 8 May at 12 noon at St Aelred's. The reception into Church is Thursday 7 May at 7pm. I know you will all remember him in your prayers.

GOOD SHEPHERD/VOCATIONS SUNDAY: Today we pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. A retiring collection will be taken for the Priests' Training Fund and Father Gerard Robinson, the diocesan vocations director, will speak at our 11.00am Mass.

BAPTISM PREPARATION: If you have a child for Baptism you are invited to attend a two session preparation course - Saturdays 9 and 16 May, 2-3pm in the Upper Room. Please let Canon Michael know if you are attending.

DAY OF REFLECTION to be held on Wednesday 6 May, 10.30am -3.30pm in English Martyrs Hall organised by The Ascent Movement. This day will be led by Fr. Bede Leach, OSB and all are welcome. Please bring some food for a shared table. Tea and coffee will be provided - suggested donation £5.

ST WILFRID'S SVP thanks all who contributed to the collection on Holy Thursday (Mass of the Lord's Supper). A total of £223.37 goes towards helping the SVP and their charities.

CANTORS: To prepare for our Sunday liturgy a monthly meeting will be held on the second Monday of each month with Iain Robertson. I invite all our Cantors to these meetings to look at the psalms for the following month. The First meeting takes place 11 May, 7.30pm in the Upper Room.

DAY TRIP TO LINCOLN CATHEDRAL AND KINEMA IN THE WOODS - Tuesday 12 May. £22.50 covers coach, Kinema in the Woods and meal at McCauley's Restaurant. Deposit of £5 per person with choice of menu (in an envelope with name on) to Maureen Potter at the Rectory. Please ask Maureen for the sight of a menu. The coach leaves Memorial Gardens at 9.15am and Our Lady's at 9.30am. We are expected to arrive back in York around 8.00pm

LINDISFARNE PILGRIMAGE: Each summer the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton organise an ecumenical walk exploring a particular aspect of our faith and Christian heritage. This year it will be from York to Holy Island - Saturday 15 to Sunday 30 August. For further information please see poster on notice board and contact Monica McLauchlan on 01273 680025.
