CAFOD 'Live Simply' ADVENT SERVICE Sunday 10 December, 3.00pm here at St Wilfrid's, to celebrate the 40 anniversary of Pope Paul VI's Encyclical Populorum Progressio. Peace means far more than a precarious truce. Peace is the fruit of anxious daily care to see that everyone lives in justice as God intends. Make sure you get Christmas off to the right start. Join us for our Advent Service. All are welcome.

ADVENT DAY OF RECONCILIATION 10am-5pm on Saturday 16 December at St Wilfrid's. Priests from around York will be available to hear confessions all day - please see the list in the porch.

ALL SAINTS SCHOOL invites us to their Carol Service in York Minster on Monday 4 December at 7.30pm. They will be celebrating Advent and preparing for Christmas with readings, prayers, reflections and music and would be delighted if parishioners would join them on the night for a community celebration.

Mince pies will be served at the service in the North transept of the Minster.

BAPTISM Last week we welcomed into our community Joseph and Jack Farrell - congratulations to them and their family.

FATHER TOM CUMMINS of the White Fathers, has written to thank you all for your generosity last weekend - a total of £1,643.65!

WELCOME to Colin Flanagan, headteacher of St Wilfrid's School who will speak to us at the 11.00am Mass today.

THANK YOU FROM OUAGADOUGOU: Nicky Thorne whom you so generously supported for his year in Africa writes from Burkina Faso, 'During the week I teach English, and teach the school caretakers to read and write. At the weekend I work on a tomato farm. Thank you again for all your support.'

BISHOP JOHN celebrates 20 years as a Bishop on Friday 8 December. He invites all to join him for a Mass at the Cathedral at 7pm and refreshments afterwards.

SATURDAY REFRESHMENTS Thanks to the people who work so hard serving refreshments month after month. Last week they raised £511.87 for parish funds making a total of £l378.05 this year. They are taking a well deserved rest until the last Saturday in March - 31st Thanks to you all.

CHRISTMAS DRAW tickets are available today. Please take a few books and se them to your friends and relations. Many thanks to those who have generously donated prizes already - please see list in the porch.

ST WILFRID'S SCHOOL CHRISTMAS FAYRE Sunday 10 Dec. 2-4.30pm in the school hall. Stalls, Tombola, Santa's Grotto, mulled wine and mince pies All welcome. The School Choir will be taking part in the St Leonard's Hospice Christmas Tree of Lights Service at York Railway Station today (Sunday).

THE RETIRING COLLECTION taken today is to support the Youth Ministry in the Diocese. Next weekend it is for Flowers for the Church at Christmas and the weekend of 16/17 December is for the SVP Charities.
