FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION Theme 'Giving' (Preparation of the Altar and gifts). All of life is a gift from God. Gifts are signs of love, and we say thank you for all God's gifts, great and small. Family members are gifts to one another. Sometimes we are gifts tightly wrapped and difficult to open; other times we share a little of who we are. We can help others see themselves as gifts by recognizing their accomplishments and speaking of what we like about them, in an affirming environment, each member begins to grow in self-esteem and recognition of his or her self-worth. This is a gift we give to one another.

The simple gifts of bread and wine and the money collected for the church which are brought to the altar by members of God's family are the goods of the earth which we all have and use. We should also offer ourselves, bringing all the actions of our daily life to the altar.
