SEA SUNDAY Today, the Church remembers in a special way, the hundreds of thousands of seafarers working on ships crossing vast expanses of ocean to bring us the goods we use and consume every day. As many as 600,000 seafarers visiting our shores each year are Catholics. However, whether or not seafarers are Catholic, or indeed religious, the Apostleship of the Sea provides the presence of Christ and his Church in their midst. The retiring collection taken today is to help them in this wonderful apostolate.

BAPTISM CONGRATULATIONS to Louis How who is to be Baptised today.

FATHER BRIAN BYRNE a retired priest of Edinburgh Diocese and here at St Wilfrid's Rector for a four week holiday slipped down our staircase and broke his femur last Tuesday. He is in Ward 28 at the York Hospital and if you have time you may like to visit him - he enjoys company.

THANKS to all who organised and supported the refreshments last Saturday - £128.03.

FAIRTRADE guarantees a better deal for Third World Producers. St Wilfrid's is now a Fairtrade Parish using Fairtrade tea and coffee for all meetings for which we have responsibility. Consumers are always keen to pay the lowest price for goods, leading to competitive pricing, driving down the price paid to the original producers of many products. This discriminates against the poorest and weakest producers usually those in developing countries. Fairtrade helps these people to earn a fair wage for their labours.

SPRINGBOARD 2007 Our Diocesan Youth Festival will be held at Ampleforth College today (Sunday July). It begins with the celebration of Mass at 12noon.
