FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION 'Listening' In this theme we look at the readings from scripture and the chants (psalms) between these readings that form the main part of the Liturgy of the Word. Scripture tells us about God's love for us. As a sign of respect we stand as we listen to the Gospel. We also prepare for the Gospel by singing the Alleluia; we make a small sign of the cross on our forehead, our lips and our heart to symbolise our readiness to welcome God's Word into our life. Next Sunday at the 11am Mass we celebrate this theme of 'Listening'.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION If you would like to be Confirmed we are hoping to begin a preparation course in the near future. I invite all 14 year olds and over (also those who will be 14 in 2004) to complete an application form - available from the porch - and return it to me as soon as possible.
BAPTISM PREPARATION If you have a child for Baptism, please get in touch with Canon Michael. Next Course - Saturdays 15, 22 November, 6, 13 December in the Upper Room.
LITURGY OF THE WORD WITH CHILDREN - The number of children attending has increased and more helpers are needed. Would you be willing to help with this ministry? If so, please complete the tear-off slip on the flier.
MASS OF REMEMBRANCE - Friday 21 November at 12.10pm. You are invited to take part in this Mass for all your family and friends who have died. Candles will be available (£l) to bring up to the altar in memory of your loved ones.
PARISH FORUM Sunday 16 November, 3.30pm in the Upper Room. All welcome.
PARISH INDIA PROJECT Our monthly fast day was on Friday. The box for your donation is on the 'gifts' table as you came into Church.
RENOVATION OF HIGH LEVEL CHURCH GUTTERS : The gutters are in poor repair and this is causing damage to the stonework. Our architect has obtained 3 quotes and the Diocese has accepted one at £13,695 plus VAT. I am informed that with a building of this age maintenance is of the utmost importance. As winter is fast approaching the work will be carried out in April/May 2004 - this will give us a bit more time to get our monies together.
CHRISTMAS DRAW - tickets are available today. We are appealing for prizes - Christmas Cake, bottles of wines/spirits, chocolates, toys and of course any help towards the first prize would be appreciated. See list in porch.
LIVING LITURGY Spirituality, Celebration and Catechesis for Sundays and Solemnities. Many hours go into prayerfully celebrating each Mass. Yet the most important preparation of all is that of those who gather as assembly. The real work isn't so much the participation at Mass itself; the real work of the people is the preparation they put into Mass before they come on Sunday and the way they leave Mass once they've left Church. This aid is planned specifically to help people prepare for a live liturgy. Cost £10. You may view the book on the table by the annexe door.
NATIONAL YOUTH SUNDAY The youth of the diocese are invited to English Martyrs, Dalton Terrace on Sun 23 Nov. Mass 2.30pm followed by Disco until 6pm.
CHURCH IN CHINA CONFERENCE Saturday 29 November, 2.00- 4.30pm at The Bar Convent. See noticeboard for further details.
FINANCE Gift Aid £188.00; Loose Plate £509.59; Priests Training Fund £443.29
