BAPTISM PREPARATION COURSE: If you have a child for Baptism you are invited to take part in a three session preparation course on Saturdays 17, 24 and 31 January, 2-3pm in the Upper Room. Please let Canon Michael know if you wish to attend. FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION 'Caring': This is the fourth theme of our children's preparation and we are looking at the scripture story, the Daughter of Jairus (Mark 5: 21-43) which focuses on the General Intercessions in the Mass. Like Jairus, we ask Jesus for help. We invite the Spirit of Jesus to answer our needs and to help us care for the needs of others. We can be Jesus to others; they can be Jesus to us. Parents Meeting : Thursday 15 January 7.30pm Children's Gathering : Saturday 17 January 10.00am - 11.30am Parish Celebration : Sunday 18 January 11.00am MARRIAGE PREPARATION 2009: The marriage preparation dates are as follows: 17 January, 14 March, 7 May, 18 July, 19 September, 14 November. All people planning their wedding are expected to participate in one of these courses which take place at St Bede's Pastoral Centre, Blossom Street, York. Please ring Marriage Care on 789115 to apply. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Meetings restart on Tuesday 14 Jan. at 7.30pm. AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED: An appeal will be made on behalf of this charity by Mrs Betty East at all Masses next weekend (17 and 18 January). She will be telling us about the work of this Catholic charity throughout the world. 'ENGAGING OUR YOUNG PEOPLE' Two Workshops with Bishop Terry and the YCW (Young Christian Workers) take place on Sunday 1 February 3.00pm - 5.00pm, Endsleigh Centre, Hull and Saturday 14 February 3.00pm - 5.00pm, St Thomas More, Middlesbrough. The workshops are open to adults who are interested in supporting young people, and to young adults who could get involved. If you would like to attend one of these workshops please put your name on the list in the porch. 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES CATHOLIC CO-ORDINATOR - an initiative of the Catholic Bishops' Conference to facilitate the Church's support of the Olympic and Paralympics games. VISIT OF RELICS OF ST THOF LISIEUX to England and Wales. The relics of St Thwill be visiting England and Wales in October. We hope this will be a time of great grace for us and for many people in our land. Catholics, other Christians, members of other faiths and no faith will all be welcome to pray by her relics. You are invited to use this forthcoming year as a time of preparation, by praying for the visit and reading about St Thon the special website that has been set up: www.catholicrelics.co.uk At present the relics are expected at York Minster 1-2 Oct. 2009. CATHOLIC PARLIAMENTARY INTERNSHIPS 2009-10: The Bishops' Conference of England and Wales is looking to recruit graduates this coming year, to work for 10 months from October 2009 to July 2010.
