FEAST OF ST WILFRID: Today we celebrate the feast of our patron. We look to Wilfrid as a source of inspiration and intercession for us. CAFOD HARVEST FAST DAY - Friday 3 October. The proceeds of our fasting raised £723.03 to date. SAM FOSTER, a parishioner of St Wilfrid's, completed the Great North Run last Sunday in under 2 hrs. Thanks to all who sponsored him - over £400 raised for CAFOD. Well done Sam. FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION: The second of our nine themes is 'Forgiving'. Each theme is centred on a specific action in family living, in the life of Jesus and in a particular part of the Mass. The action of 'Forgiving' is related in the story of Zacchaeus who was a tax collector. The Eucharist helps us to forgive and to seek forgiveness, and to grow in love with God and one another. The parents met on Thursday, the children gathered on Saturday morning with their catechists and we celebrate at the 11am Mass today. RETIRED PRIESTS WELFARE FUND: Today a collection will be taken for the retired priests of our diocese. This is an important collection - I know you will be generous. MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION: A meeting of all Ministers takes place on Thursday 30 October at 7.30pm in the Upper Room. Please make every effort to attend. VISIT OF RELICS OF ST THOF LISIEUX to England and Wales. A week on Wednesday, 1 October, is the feast day of St Thof Lisieux. As you may have heard, her relics will be visiting England and Wales this time next year. We hope this will be a time of great grace for us and for many people in our land. Catholics, other Christians, members of other faiths and no faith will all be welcome to pray by her relics. You are invited to use this forthcoming year as a time of preparation, by praying for the visit and reading about St Thon the special website that has been set up: www.catholicrelics.co.uk At present the relics are expected at York Minster 1-2 Oct. 2009. ST WILFRID'S SCHOOL: An open afternoon will be held on Tuesday 4 November from 1.30 to 3.00pm - a wonderful opportunity for prospective parents to see round the school. ALL SAINTS SCHOOL invite Year 6 students and parents to an Open Evening at the Nunnery Lane site on Mon. 13 Oct. at 7pm - 9pm - an opportunity to meet staff and pupils and see displays of work. MAKE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL IN 2008: A Retreat in Daily Life at St Bede's Pastoral Centre, 21 Blossom Street starting on Wednesday 12 November at 7.30pm.
