EDUCATION SUNDAY : Theme 'Teaching is for Life - a theme which seeks to affirm and enhance the vocation of the teacher and to remind us all that throughout our lives we are both teaching and learning alongside others.

FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION Theme 'Caring'. Today our 11am Mass is the celebration of this theme. By our example of caring about and helping those in need, our children learn to express their compassion and care for those who are sick, hurt, sad, lonely, homeless, hungry, finding difficulty in doing school work etc.

LITURGY PREPARATION: Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, Thurs 20 Feb 7pm.

PARISH SOCIAL EVENING Fri 21 Feb. 7-9pm in the Upper Room. Please bring some food for the shared supper. New parishioners and families especially welcome.

CHEESE AND WINE EVENING Fri. 28 Feb. 7pm in the Rectory. Tickets on sale today £2 - including glass of wine. Donations for raffle, tombola, etc. very welcome.

HOUSE GROUP : Friday 28 February, 8pm at 1 St Barnabas Close, Leeman Road.

PARISH FINANCE: There is a Report of our Parish Finances available in the porch. You will notice that our surplus income amounts to only £2,111.09 for 2002. Could you help by regular giving through Bankers Order or envelope? If you are already a regular contributor perhaps this is the time to consider increasing your giving - especially if you have not increased it for some time.

WELCOMERS - a meeting for all who do this important ministry takes place on Monday 17 February at 8.00pm in the Upper Room.

FR JOHN TREACY celebrates his 90th birthday on Tues 18 February with Mass at St Joseph's at 2pm followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. All very welcome.

MARGARET CLITHEROW SAINT OF YORK - a talk by John Rayne-Davis, author of this book, Wednesday 19 February, 7.30pm in the Upper Room.

WOMEN'S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER - Friday 7 March. The Central Service for the City is here at St Wilfrid's at 2pm. Theme 'Holy Spirit, Fill Us' prepared by the women of Lebanon. Speaker - Major Westlake of the Salvation Army. All welcome.

SPRING CLEANING?? Bric-a-brac, books, plants, cakes and home-made produce needed for our fundraising day, Thursday 13 March at St Crux. N.B. Tombola, raffle and clothes stalls not allowed. Help on day needed - please sign list in porch.

ASCENT : York Central, meet on Wednesday 26 February 12.45pm-3pm in St Wilfrid's Upper Room. All 50+ years most welcome.

RITE OF ELECTION - Sunday 9 March, 3pm at the Cathedral, Middlesbrough. A coach will be going from York - cost £5 per person. List for names in the porch.

BLUE PETER WATERWORKS APPEAL : Bring and Buy Sale, Sunday 2 March at 12 noon in the Upper Room. This venture is being organised by a pupil from St Wilfrid's School. Please support her efforts.

TESCO 'Computers for Schools' vouchers - we're collecting them for our school.
