PEACE SUNDAY: International Law -A Path toPeace; this is the theme chosen by the Pope for World day of Peace 2004 which is today. The Pope says in his message "Humanity is faced with a crucial challenge; if it does not succeed in giving itself institutions that are really effective in eliminating the scourge of war, the risk is that the law of force will prevail..."

FIRST COMMUNiON PREPARATION: Today at our 11am Mass we celebrate the theme 'Giving' (Preparation of the altar and gifts). All of life is gift from God. Gifts are signs of love, and we say thank you for all God gifts, great and small.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION: There are three courses planned for 2004 at St Bede's Pastoral Centre, Blossom Street - Saturdays 20th March, 3rd July and 6th November. To book a place please call 789115 Monday - Friday.

GOD'S WORD: Each Wednesday our Sunday Readers are encouraged to gather together to prepare in a prayerful way, the proclamation of God's Word. It is a very important ministry. Taking time out for prayer and for praying the Scriptures is not easy in today's world with all its distractions. It is, however, of vital importance. These Wednesday gatherings are open to all - not just our Sunday Readers. Our Sunday Liturgy will be all the more meaningful, the more we put into it. 'The word liturgy comes from two Greek words meaning the work of the people. The real work is not so much the participation of Mass itse/f; the real work of the people is the preparation they put into Mass before they come to Mass on Sunday and the way they live Mass once they've left Church.'

UNITY OCTAVE: 18th-25th January. This is a time of special prayer for unity among all the Christian churches.

FUNDRAISING MEETING: Monday 19th January 7:30pm in the Sacristy. If you have any ideas for events, etc. for this year please come along.

WORLD YOUTH DAY CROSS PILGRIMAGE: The Cross is at the Cathedral on Monday 26th January. An evening liturgy of the Passion especially written for young people will begin at 7pm and end around 8.30pm and is open to all. (World Youth Day is open to 18-35 year olds). Refreshments will be provided afterwards.

WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS and thanks for joining in our Celebration. We hope you enjoy your time in York. Young children are most welcome to join in the Children's Liturgy at the 11am Mass. It helps the parish if tax-paying visitors would use the small white Gift Aid envelope (found at the back of Church) for any offerings you wish to make. For every £1 you give, the Inland Revenue gives a further £0.28. Thank you for your help
