CONFIRMATION 2008 The priests of the Pastoral Area have decided that, for the parishes of York the Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on Thursday 15 May at Our Lady's Church in Acomb. The young candidates will continue to meet in their own parishes - our next gathering is on Thursday 13 September at 7.30pm in the Upper Room. MINISTERS OF THE WORD The Wednesday meetings are discontinued during July and August. We will reassemble in September starting with a gathering for all Readers on Wednesday 5 from 7pm - 9pm in the Upper Room when Jane Cook, Diocesan Adult Formation Advisor, will lead the evening. MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION STUDY DAY - Saturday 22 September, 9.45am - 3.30pm at Askham Bryan College. The speaker this year is Sister Sheila O'Dea, a Mercy Sister from Newfoundland and currently Director of Liturgy at All Hallows, Dublin. Because numbers are limited we are asked to book in early - application forms available from the Sacristy and to be returned by Friday 24 August please. HOLIDAYS I will be in Ireland with my family during August and I am grateful to the local priests who will be celebrating the Masses here. Please note that there will be no Monday 8am Mass or 10am Saturday Mass at St Margaret Shrine in the Shambles during August. Confessions will be Saturdays 11am to 12noon here at St Wilfrid's. REFRESHMENTS will be served next Saturday (25 August) 10.00am - 3.30pm in the Upper Room. If you can help by donating cakes etc it would be much appreciated. Please come along and sample the good food and company. THE MUSIC GROUP next meets on Monday 27 August at 6.30pm in the Upper Room. THE SINGING PRACTICES resume on Monday 3 September, 7.30pm - 8.30pm. OUTING TO BRIDLINGTON - Organised by Ascent but open to everyone: Tuesday 11 September. The coach will leave Memorial Gardens at 9.15am, and Our Lady's at 9.30am, calling at Beverley for approx. 2 hours, and getting back to York around 6.30pm. The fare is £6.50. There is a list at the back of church for names. Please give a deposit of £5 to Maureen Potter when booking. ASCENT RETREAT led by Sister Anne Hammersley, Monday 17 - Thursday 20 September at the Briery, Ilkley. There are a few vacancies if you would like a little time out for prayer and reflection. Mgr Seamus Kilbane will be celebrating Mass each day. Cost £120. Please ring the Rectory 624767 for further details and booking forms. WORLD YOUTH DAY - SYDNEY 2008 We are grateful to have two members of our parish, Megan and Olga, travelling to Sydney next July with the Diocese.
