WORLD MISSION SUNDAY: Today, every Catholic community and parish throughout the world takes part in World Mission Sunday in a global effort to bring spiritual and material help to our brothers and sisters who are thirsting for the hope and love that comes through knowing Jesus. Your kindness will help all missionaries across the world and the new Churches to grow strong and vibrant! Please contribute to the retiring collection today and if possible please use the Gift Aid envelopes provided - this will increase your donation by 28%.

CONGRATULATIONS to Kirstie and Caitlin McVey who are to be baptised into the Christian Community today and to their parents and family.

FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION 'Listening'. In this theme we look at the readings from scripture and the chants (psalms) between these readings that form the main part of the Liturgy of the Word. We prepare for the Gospel by singing the Alleluia; we make a small sign of the cross on our forehead, our lips and our heart to symbolise our readiness to welcome God's Word into our life.

MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION: A meeting of all Ministers takes place on Thursday 30 October at 7.30pm in the Upper Room. Please make every effort to attend.

NOVEMBER - HOLY SOULS: This is the time of year when we remember in a special way, our deceased family members and friends. If you would like to have your loved ones remembered in our Masses here in November, please take an envelope from the porch and return it to the Rectory or Sacristy as soon as possible.

HUMAN FERTILISATION AND EMBRYOLOGY BILL (HFE BILL): The Bishops of England and Wales are very concerned about certain aspects of this Bill. Please take a leaflet from the porch today and I encourage you to write to your MP expressing your views a.s.a.p.

VISIT OF RELICS OF ST THOF LISIEUX to England and Wales. A week on Wednesday, 1 October, is the feast day of St Thof Lisieux. As you may have heard, her relics will be visiting England and Wales this time next year. We hope this will be a time of great grace for us and for many people in our land. Catholics, other Christians, members of other faiths and no faith will all be welcome to pray by her relics. You are invited to use this forthcoming year as a time of preparation, by praying for the visit and reading about St Thon the special website that has been set up: www.catholicrelics.co.uk At present the relics are expected at York Minster 1-2 Oct. 2009.

REFRESHMENTS will be available in the Upper Room, Saturday 25 October, 10.00am - 3.00pm. Please come along and support this event.

ST WILFRID'S SCHOOL: An open afternoon will be held on Tuesday 4 November from 1.30 to 3.00pm - a wonderful opportunity for prospective parents to see round the school.

YOUTH SUNDAY - 23 November 2008. Calling all young people (14 - 25 years) to prepare the Liturgy for Youth Sunday. The meeting takes place on Wed. 29 Oct. 7 - 8.30pm in the Upper Room.

LITURGY OF THE WORD WITH CHILDREN: A meeting for all involved will take place on Thursday 13 November at 7.30pm in the Upper Room.

NEWMAN ASSOCIATION: Next meeting, Monday 20 October, 7.30pm at St Bede's Pastoral Centre, Blossom Street. Speaker, Father Bill East.
