FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION: We start our preparation for 2009 next month. The first of our nine themes is 'Celebrating'. Each theme is centred on a specific action in family living, in the life of Jesus, and in a particular part of the Mass. The action of 'Celebrating' is related in the story of the Wedding Feast at Cana. When we gather as the family of God, we celebrate and praise God.

Parents Meeting : Thursday 11 September 7.30pm

Children's Gathering : Saturday 13 September 10.00-11.30am

Parish Celebration : Sunday 14 September 11.00am

CATECHESIS - VISION AND REALITY, Saturday 11 October at English Martyrs Hall, Dalton Terrace, commencing at 10.30am (with coffee served from 10.00am) and concluding by 4.00pm. This day is for all who are involved in preparing children, young people, parents or adult enquirers for the Sacraments of Initiation, or leading Children's Liturgy of the Word. The cost for the day is £5. Please sign the list in the porch if you would like to attend.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD: We will reassemble with a gathering for all Readers on Wednesday 10 September from 7.00pm - 9.00pm in the Upper Room.

PLAQUE TO ST MARGARET CLITHEROW: Bishop Terence will unveil a plaque to St Margaret Clitherow in a ceremony to be held at the Micklegate end of Ouse Bridge (where Margaret was executed) on 29 August at 3.30pm. All are invited to attend.

PARISH FORUM: Sunday 7 September, 3.30pm - 5.00pm in the Upper Room. If you have any items for the agenda please hand them in before Sunday 7 September.

BIBLE ALIVE: The September issue is available from the porch at £1.95.

HOLIDAYS: I will be on holiday with my family during August and I am grateful to the local priests who will be celebrating the Masses here.

Please note that there will be no Monday 8.00am Mass or 10.00am Saturday Mass at St Margaret Clitherow's Shrine in the Shambles during August. Confessions will be Saturdays 11.00am to 12 noon here at St Wilfrid's.

ASCENT meets again on Wednesday next (27 August) 12.45pm - 3.00pm in the Upper Room.

TRIP TO WHITBY (organised by Ascent) on Tuesday 9 September. The coach will leave Memorial Gardens at 9.15am and Our Lady's Church at 9.30am and the fare will be £8. There will be a stop at Thornton Le Dale for coffee. It is expected we will be back in York between 6.00pm and 6.30pm. Please put your name on the list in the porch if you would like to go.

THE RETIRING COLLECTION is for the ongoing maintenance of our parish buildings - many thanks for your continued generosity.

THE LADY CHAPEL, MOUNT GRACE: Mass on Our Lady's birthday, Monday 8 September, 2.00pm. All welcome.

THE KAREN HILLTRIBES TRUST: Please sponsor Sophie Lusty who is doing the Leeds Half Marathon in aid of the Karen Hilltribes Trust (KHT). The event takes place on 7 September and all money raised is for KHT, a York based charity that Sophie will be working with next year teaching children in Thailand. CHORISTER FOR A DAY: St Martin's, Ampleforth will be hosting this event on Sunday 12 October in conjunction with Ampleforth Abbey. If you are aged between 7 and 10 years and enjoy singing you will be most welcome.
