CANON JOE O'MAHONY died peacefully last Wednesday morning after a short illness. Joe was born in Portlaoise, Ireland and grew up in this parish. He attended St Wilfrid's School before going onto St Michael's in Leeds. Recently he celebrated 60 years as a priest and he made a great contribution to the Liturgical life of the Diocese and also nationally. Many would have known his sister Peggy who was our APF organiser over a long period. Joe's funeral takes place here at St Wilfrid's on Thursday next (29 July) at 12noon.
LOURDES FUNDRAISING DAY (to help York sick pilgrims to go to Lourdes) Friday 13 August at St Crux, 10am to 4pm. If you can help on the day please put your name on the list in the porch. Cakes, scones bric-a-brac handicrafts will be welcome. If you have bric-a-brac please contact Liz Boyes, tel. 656497. A meeting in connection with this day takes place on Monday 2 August 7:30pm in St Wilfrid's Sacristy.
RENOVATION OF EAVES GUTTERS The work is almost completed. The final cost is £17,084.21. This figure is slightly higher than the original costing due to the delay in starting the work and some essential repairs that came to light when the scaffolding was erected.
The work on the tower will be carried out next year and hopefully the completion of the work on the ramp to bring it into line with the original HCC specification The re-ordering of the Sanctuary, which was planned to take place some two years ago, will also be completed in accordance with the HCC specifications in due course.
ASCENT for people in their middle years, meet again on Wednesday next (28 July) at 12:45pm in the Upper Room. All very welcome.
APF MISSION MAGAZINE will be available today. Pat and Ernie Johnston will be in the porch to sign up any new members and take in the contents of the red mission boxes.

OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM September 24th is now designated as the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham, An appeal is being launched to help build a new church in the village of Walsingham. The Cardinal has given his backing to this project and has written recently: We are extremely fortunate to have in our country the National Shrine of Walsingham, which has, for over 900 years, been the focus of Marian devotion in this country. A collection towards the new church will be taken the weekend after the feast day (26th September).
