ST THERESE OF LISIEUX - a time of grace for England and Wales. We are very privileged in York to have the relics in the Minster for her feast day. The relics will arrive at the Minster at 6.00pm on Thursday 1 October and are taken to the next destination at midday on Friday 2 at 12 noon. The Minster will be open for veneration of the relics all through the night and services will be held on the hour.
VOLUNTEERS are required to act as stewards throughout the 18 hours of the visit of the Relics of St Therese, if you are able to help please put your name on the list in the porch or telephone Manuel on 01904 783304.
ST WILFRID: This year marks the 13th centenary since the death of St Wilfrid. As he is the patron of our Church it is proposed to celebrate his feast day this year with special solemnity - Monday 12 October 2009. It was encouraging to see so many at our meeting last Tuesday. Plans are progressing well for the Liturgy and hospitality. The next preparation meeting is Tuesday 8 September at 7.30pm in the Upper Room. See Newsletter insert today.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK: Today at our 11.00am Mass we will celebrate the Sacrament of the Sick. Those who are eligible are all who are suffering from a serious illness and those who have reached old age.
DAY FOR LIFE "You are precious in my sight" (Isaiah 43:4). This is dedicated to celebrating the dignity of life from conception to natural death. A retiring collection will be taken today to help support this work. Information leaflets and gift aid envelopes are available from the porch.
CONFIRMATION 2010: Thanks to the young people who have written to request preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. A meeting for parents and candidates will take place on Thursday 10 September, 7.30pm in the Upper Room.
INTERNATIONAL MASS - What a celebration! Thanks to the many people who prepared and participated. It is wonderful to see so many nations coming here to worship as the Body of Christ.
MINISTERS OF THE WORD: Our Wednesday meetings are discontinued during July and August - all Readers are encouraged to prepare at home during these two months.
MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION STUDY DAY. Saturday 12 September at Askham Bryan College. As numbers are limited, applications will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis. The cost of the day is £11 and St Wilfrid's Ministers are asked to contribute £5 towards the day. If you would like to book a place, please put your name on the list in the porch and the £5 to be handed in at the Sacristy in an envelope with your name on the front by Sunday 9 August.
SATURDAY REFRESHMENTS: Thanks to the hard work of a number of parishioners the sum of £4,983.63 has been raised since 25 June 2006. This money goes towards our Church Buildings Fund. It is deeply appreciated. The next Refreshments day is Saturday 29 August.
ANNUAL ASSUMPTION PILGRIMAGE takes place on Sunday 16 August at 3pm at the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Grace, Osmotherley. Please see poster for further details.

SWINE FLU: Bishop Terence has written with guidelines to help prevent the spread of this flu. As a temporary measure we are asked to take some recommended precautions within the Mass. Here at St Wilfrid's from today:
-The Host to be received on the hand only.
-Communion from the Chalice to cease for the time being.
