WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS and thanks for joining in our Celebration. We hope you enjoy your time in York. Young children are most welcome to join in the Children's Liturgy at the 11am Mass. It helps the parish if tax-paying visitors would use the small white Gift Aid envelope (found at the back of Church) for any offerings you wish to make. For every £1 you give, the Inland Revenue gives a further £0.28. Thank you for your help.

BECOMING A CATHOLIC : If you are not already a member of the Catholic Church and would like to explore the possibility of becoming one, or if any of our congregation knows of anyone, a meeting with me, Canon Michael, will take place on Tuesday 29 July at 8.00pm in the Upper Room. Please telephone me on 624767.

GOSPEL CHALLENGE : 10 - 12 October 2003. An invitation to all members of the parish who would like to come and reflect on the Gospel and its implications for us today. Booking forms are available today from the porch.

PARISH PROJECT: Some months ago Archbishop Thomas of Guwahati, Assam, India visited our parish. He told us a little about his Diocese and its struggle to build much needed hospitals for the benefit of thousands of rural tribal people. After discussion at the Parish Forum it was decided that we at St Wilfrid's would take on a commitment to help with this worthy project. Could we take on fasting and praying on the first Friday of each month and bring the proceeds of our fasting/sacrifice to Mass on the following Sunday? A box will be left on the 'gifts' table at the back of Church and will be brought up with the gifts in the procession. We start on the first Friday in August.

CONGRATULATIONS to Jane Alletson and Peter Smith who were married this weekend. May God grant them many blessings.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD: For the month of August our Wednesday meetings are discontinued. We begin again on the first Wednesday of September. Thanks to all the Readers who come to our weekly meetings to prepare for the proclamation of the Word. It is necessary that those who exercise the Ministry of Reader be truly qualified and carefully prepared so that the faithful may develop a warm and living love for the scriptures from listening to the Sacred Texts proclamed. This preparation must above all be spiritual, but what may be called a 'technical preparation' is also needed. (Taken from the Lectionary for Mass: Introduction No. 55).

SUMMER DRAW : Tickets are available today - please take a few books and sell them to family and friends. If you could also help by donating a prize, please put your name next to your donation on the list in the porch. Tickets 50p. First prize £200.

ASCENT - an international movement for Christians 50 years plus. It was launched in Middlesbrough Diocese some ten years ago and there are now nine groups established. There are two in York, the York Central Group meets here at St Wilfrid's on the last Wednesday of every month. Next meeting is Wednesday 30 July at 12.45pm in the Upper Room. All welcome.

BIBLE ALIVE: The August issue is available today from the Paper Stall. Price £1.75.

CTS BOOKLETS: A new range of publications is available in the porch - including some copies of the recent Encyclical Letter on the Eucharist and many other book s of interest.

DIOCESAN ADULT FORMATION: You will find a questionnaire in this month's Catholic Voice. It would be helpful for planning if you would be kind enough to complete it and bring it back or send it direct to Curial Office by 31 July.

MOUNT GRACE ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE : Sunday 17 August. Please see poster.

DAY TRIP : Wed 30 July to Bede's World and Durham Cathedral. Coach leaves English Martyrs 9.30am & Our Lady's at 9.45am returning to York approx. 9pm. Cost £15 (includes admission to both places). To book ring English Martyrs on 623783.
