INTERNATIONAL MASS Thanks to the many people who prepared and participated in our 11am Mass last Sunday. It was a great assembly of people from all over the world - Italia, Germany, Ireland, Philippines, Scotland, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, Malta, India, England, Belize, Sri Lanka, Venezuela, Mexico, Guyana, Poland, United States. We had a wonderful selection of foods and even the rain didn't dampen our spirits!

CONGRATULATIONS to Corina Meyer and Edwin Carney who were married last week and to Rebecca Ewart and Paul Cheethan, who were married this weekend here at St Wilfrid's. We wish them blessings in abundance for the future.

FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION 2008 Six children were represented by their parents at our first meeting last Thursday. The parish preparation begins in September.

CONFIRMATION 2008 The priests of the Pastoral Area have decided that, for the parishes of York the Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on Thursday 15 May at Our Lady's Church in Acomb. The young candidates will continue to meet in their own parishes - our next gathering is on Thursday 13 September at 7.30pm in the Upper Room.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD The Wednesday meetings are discontinued during July and August. We will reassemble in September starting with a gathering for all Readers on Wednesday 5 from 7pm - 9pm in the Upper Room when Jane Cook, Diocesan Adult Formation Advisor, will lead the evening.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS Congratulations to Kath Grice on her 70 birthday this weekend. Kath quietly serves St Wilfrid's in so many ways - we are deeply grateful.

HOLIDAYS I will be in Ireland with my family during August and I am grateful to the local priests who will be celebrating the Masses here. Please note that there will be no Monday 8am Mass or 10am Saturday Mass at St Margaret's Shrine in the Shambles during August. Confessions will be Saturdays 11am to 12 noon here at St Wilfrid's.

SANCTUARY REFURBISHMENT Due to the late delivery of the marble columns for the altar the completion of the work has been delayed for a few weeks.

MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION STUDY DAY Saturday 22 September, 9.45am - 3.30pm at Askham Bryan College. The speaker this year is Sister Sheila O'Dea, a Mercy Sister from Newfoundland and currently Director of Liturgy at All Hallows, Dublin. Because numbers are limited we are asked to book in early - forms will be available next weekend.

THE ENDSLEIGH CENTRE Hull (Conference and Retreat Centre). Sister Catherine Ryan requires a Manager to support her in the development and running of this 39 bedroom 7 conference room, 2 chapel, retreat and business centre. The position would suit an existing assistant manager with a proven record of handling conferences, weddings etc. Applicants need to be able to live and work in the UK in order to be considered for this role. MOUNT GRACE PILGRIMAGE - Assumption of Our Lady takes place on Sunday 12 August. Mass at 3pm. All very welcome.
