CAFOD MIDDLE EAST APPEAL A retiring collection will be taken today to enable both Caritas Lebanon and Caritas Jerusalem to respond to the needs of their people. CAFOD has already pledged £125,000 but with our help they could give more.

HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION The Bishops of England and Wales have decided to transfer to Sunday those Holy Days of Obligation which are Solemnities of the Lord (other than Christmas Day), This means that the Epiphany, the Ascension of the Lord and Corpus Christi will now be celebrated on Sunday. These changes take effect on 3 December 2006, the First Sunday of Advent. The current practice is retained with regard to other Holy Days of Obligation. The Statement from the president of the Bishops' Conference, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor is available from the porch.

BAPTISM Today we welcome into the community Maisie-Grace McEvoy and William George McEvoy - they will be baptised during the 11.00am Mass.

FAREWELL Frances, our welcomer at 11am Mass and Tamara, one of our cantors, say goodbye to us today. They have made a huge contribution to our Liturgy and we thank them today and wish them every blessing.

PROCLAIMING GOD'S WORD Our Wednesday evening meetings for Ministers of the Word will take a break until Wednesday 6 September.

LAY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION - annual Study Day, Saturday 23 September at the Conference Hall, Askham Bryan College. Further details of this and your new rota can be collected today from the table in the annexe.

HOLIDAYS Canon Michael will be in Ireland with his family from 31 July to 25 Aug. The local priests will be celebrating the Masses here at St Wilfrid's. Please note weekday Mass changes and Sacrament of Reconciliation time for August. There will be no Thursday Eucharistic Adoration during August.

JUBILEE PHOTOGRAPHS If anyone has photographs taken at Canon's Jubilee Celebration it would be appreciated if you could let us have copies to display in the porch.
