Congratulations to St Wilfrid's School

Mr Dan Jones writes….

Well done to our boys’ football team, who represented St Wilfrid’s wonderfully in sunny Middlesbrough, on Saturday May 17th.

More than 70 teams from across the diocese took part in the event and we got off to a flyer, winning 5 of our group games, scoring more than 20 goals in the process.

Sadly, we were knocked out in the last 16 by St Peter’s, Scarborough, after an unfortunate 1-0 defeat. [Fr Richard's old friend Fr William Massie will be crowing in his cliff-top house!]

However, our excellent play on the field and brilliant behaviour both on and off the field were recognised by referees, organisers and supporters. As a result, we were awarded the sporting excellence trophy. Congratulations to all the team.

St Wilfrid's School also came fifth in the whole country in a national reading competition. So excellence all round, brains, skill and sportsmanship.
