Collection for the Philippines

APTOPIX Philippines Typhoon

St Wilfrid’s is lucky to have a large number of very committed Filipino parishioners. Many of them have relatives who have been affected by Typhoon Haiyan. This gives us a very concrete and very Catholic sense of solidarity with families on the other side of the world. Last Wednesday we made the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour for the Philippines. This weekend we will have an opportunity to show practical support through a collection at the end of Mass. Rami Aquino, the President of the York Filipino Association, will say a few words at the end of every Mass.

"I wish to express my closeness to the people of the Philippines and of that region. Unfortunately there are many victims and the damage is enormous. We pray now in silence ... for our brothers and sisters, and we will seek to also send concrete help." - Pope Francis.
