Commemoration of the Start of the Great War

Many thanks to all who contributed to Monday's Solemn Requiem Mass. This was St Wilfrid's contribution to the centenary of the start of the First World War. Thanks to the choir, organist and servers; to the bell ringers who rang half-muffled peals before and after Mass; and to the bugler from the West Yorkshire Police who sounded the Last Post and the Reveille at the end of Mass.

Thanks also to Major Wiles MBE who led the Act of Remembrance and to Fr David Smith of the Royal Army Chaplains' Department who assisted with a large contingent of Junior Soldiers from the Army Foundation College in Harrogate.

St Wilfrid's York, War Dead Requiem 2014The church was very full - apologies to those who did not get orders of service! Please continue to pray for those who lose their lives or who are injured in conflict, for their families, friends and dependents; and for peace in our increasingly troubled world.
