Pilgrimage to Ladyewell
Some parishioners and friends celebrated the feast of the Birthday of Our Lady with a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs at Ladyewell near Preston. There was a chance to visit the museum, with the "dresser" altar on which so many of the English martyr priests celebrated Mass.
Afterwards we visited the archives at Stonyhurst College and saw some of their treasures: the Book of Hours belonging to both Queen Mary Tudor and Mary, Queen of Scots; the eye relic of Blessed Edward Oldcorne - a former pupil of St Peter's School, York; some spectacular vestments; and many fine Catholic books, manuscripts and paintings.
We prayed for the other parish pilgrims who left for Knock today. Time did not permit the planned visit to the reputed burial place of St Margaret Clitherow. Another year….
