St Agnes.
Died 304 ~ Agnes was born into a well-to-do Roman family and was a beautiful child. At only thirteen years of age, she secretly became a Christian and when she grew up she refused to marry her many suitors. Her Christianity was discovered and the authorities ordered her to be sent to a house for prostitutes. She prayed and prayed to be saved and miraculously she escaped. Unfortunately, she was re-captured and still refusing to honour pagan gods, she was stabbed in the throat and beheaded. Agnes is buried in Via Nomentana in Rome and a church built on the site is named after her. She is the patron saint of young girls.
