St Germanus. 496-576. ~ Born in Autun in France, Germanus was ordained and elected abbot of Autun Abbey and bishop of Paris. He was well known for his kindness to the poor and for his success in converting people to Christianity. Germanus was also famous for working miracles; one reported to have cured the king from a serious illness. During his time in office, he objected constantly to the low morals of the king’s court and excommunicated many people including the king himself. He tried to end a quarrel between the king’s two nephews, but failed.
