St Simon and St Jude 1st C ~ Simon and Jude were two of Christ’s twelve Apostles. They are always associated together and share the same feast day. Jude is referred to by the surname “Thaddaeus” in both Mark 10:2-4 and Mark 3:16-19. It is believed that he preached in Mesopotamia. He is the patron saint of hopeless causes and anxious situations which came about because his name is similar to Judas. Jude is also the author of a short epistle in the New Testament. Simon “Zealots”, meaning “jealous” refers to Simon belonging to a strict Jewish sect adherence to Moses’ Law Luke 6:15. Some sources say they both died naturally, others say that after preaching in Egypt they went on to Persia and were martyred there.
